Our host, The Claggett Center is a unique site as it offers a brand new facility complimented by historic buildings that still serve guests and effectively deliver the Conference Center experience. Our centers carry a vast inventory of facilities with many that are in need of updating and renovation.  What impact does a new facility have on the remainder of the campus...on level of service, maintenance and staff, and in establishing rates for your guests? The Conference begins with a Keynote Panel that kick starts the conversation of "Facilities" Idea to Occupancy".  The Keynote Panel will show case the project management process of Claggett's new facility.

1. AIRPORTS:

You have your choice of three airports that are close to The Claggett Center in Adamstown, MD:

  1. The nearest airport is Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD / KIAD). This airport is 37 miles from the center of Adamstown, MD.  Even though this airport is closer, there is sometimes more traffic than Baltimore.
  2. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA / KDCA) Washington, is 50 miles from Adamstown, MD.   This airport is right in the center of Washington, D.C. and has the most traffic of all three airports.
  3. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI / KBWI) is 60 miles from Adamstown, MD.  Even though 60 miles away, it an easier airport to get in and out of and has less traffic than the other two airports above.

2.  BRING SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE AUCTION:

Funds raised from the Fall Conference Auction provide much needed scholarships for members of IACCA.  Since 2005, over $20,000 has been used to support the professional development of our community members.  Thank you for your generosity.  Let's keep the process going this year with the bidding.

4.   FUN THINGS TO DO ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON:

As part of free time for Wednesday afternoon, the following options are available. Carpooling will be used for the various options:

A. Gettysburg National Military Park--This is your chance to tour the historical battlefield site.  The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".  You can start your tour that day by browsing the Museum and Visitor Center and then tour the rest of the park with a guided tour, a self-guided tour, an audio tour by car, or touring the Soldier's National Cemetery where Union soldiers are buried.  The IACCA group does not have to stay together once you get there if you would rather visit the site on your own.  For further information on Gettsyburg go this website, http://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/index.htm.

B.  The Inner Harbor in Baltimore offers a 45-50 minute cruise.  These tours are offered by three separate cruise companies.  Besides a cruise you could visit the Maryland Science Center, the National Aquarium, the Maritime Museum, the Fort McHenry Shrine, or take in views from the World Trade Center or just shop in the many stores available at the Inner Harbor.  To find out more information and what is available at the Inner Harbor go to the website, http://baltimore.org/article/baltimore-inner-harbor.

C.   Hiking at Claggett is an optional activity that allows you to stay in the area of The Claggett Center and hike the hills of Maryland Heights.  This hike will be led by one of Claggett's staff.  Another option is to stay at the Center and relax and take in the views of the rolling hills.  Here is the website of The Claggett Center: http://www.claggettcenter.org/.

D. Visit other Conference Centers in the area. If you’re interested in touring another nearby Center or if you’re trying to obtain points with a visit to a center for Certification, you can visit many of the conference centers that are close to Claggett, such as Pearlstone.
